Today is April 20th,2020. I am at the age of twenty-six and I live in Ireland on a farm with my husband. I have two children the ages of five and three. My husband is a farmer and makes money off of sheep's wool, cow milk, fresh eggs, and vegetables. We own a pick-up truck and a simple BMW. I have gone to college for about six years and I am in training to be a veterinary technician. I plan on running my own clinic and making house calls to the various farms around the town we live. We live a simple existence and yet it is perfect for us. I will occasionally go back to the states to visit my family for holidays and birthdays. I can't wait till I am able to return back to our farmhouse in Ireland. It is a serene existence, sometimes hard when my husband can not get enough from the animals or the crops. When this happens it gets a bit hard for us, but I do not mind. As long as I have my family, and my dreams, then my life is complete for me.

I have watched and graded three Digital stories. To review them click HERE
I believe only one of the stories showed that it fit the rubric for the ISSN Graduate Portfolio. That story was "Trip To The Moon" by Jason and Pam. I believe these two children are ready for college because they are creating digital stories while in Elementary school. They however do not mention any global aspects in this video. If they wish to do better, they can say different countries sent people to the moon.

The topic I have chose for Digital Story 2 is how japanese anime reflects the lives and culture of the Japanese and shows it to the lives of American youth. This helps americans realize the type of art respected in Japan, shows daily customs in japan, and also shows the types of genres that are liked there.

Graduate Portfolio Reflection - Story 1

Making digital story number 1 was a lot of fun for me. It helped me see how much I could connect my story to the graduate portfolio. I was able to connect them by showing how I am a "21st Century Thinker". It has done this by showing me I am able to talk about myself, not through words, but through images about my likes, dislike, family, and goals. This is similar to what we need to speak about in our Graduate portfolio. It also showed that I am a "21st Century Thinker" by allowing me to make a video using only a computer. Before the 21st century, the only way to make a video was using a video camera. It is now much easier for me.

Establishes a purpose early on and maintains a clear focus throughout.

Establishes a purpose early on and maintains focus for most of the presentation.

There are a few lapses in focus, but the purpose is fairly clear.

It is difficult to figure out the purpose of the presentation.

FOCUS

Strong awareness of audience in the design. Students can clearly explain why they felt the vocabulary, audio and graphics chosen fit the target audience.

Images create an atmosphere or tone that matches some parts of the story. The images may communicate symbolism/ metaphors.

An attempt was made to use images to create an atmosphere/tone but it needed more work. Image choice is logical.

Little or no attempt to use images to create an appropriate atmosphere/tone.

ORGANIZATION

Sequencing of Information

Graphics & story line are organized in a clear, logical way. The story is easy to follow.

Most information is organized in a clear, logical way.  One picture seems to be out of place.

Two or more pictures seem to be out of place making the story difficult to follow.

There is no clear story.  Pictures seem to be sequenced randomly.

STYLE

Voice - Consistency

Voice quality is clear and consistently audible throughout the presentation.

Voice quality is clear and consistently audible throughout the majority (85-95%) of the presentation.

Voice quality is clear and consistently audible through some (70-84%)of the presentation.

Voice quality needs more attention.

STYLE

Voice - Pacing

The pace (rhythm and voice punctuation) fits the story line and helps the audience really "get into" the story.

Occasionally speaks too fast or too slowly for the story line. The pacing (rhythm and voice punctuation) is relatively engaging for the audience.

Tries to use pacing (rhythm and voice punctuation), but it is often noticeable that the pacing does not fit the story line. Audience is not consistently engaged.

No attempt to match the pace of the storytelling to the story line or the audience.

STYLE

Layout

Layout is exceptionally creative and visually appealing.  The fonts, color, and background all work together to provide a consistent theme and a presentation that is easy to view/read.

Layout is creative and visually appealing.  The fonts, colors, and background almost provide a clear theme. It is generally an easy presentation to read and follow.

Layout is visually appealing although some slides may be too cluttered or too empty.  The fonts, colors, and background do not necessarily provide a theme and there may be parts that are difficult to view/read.

Layout lacks visual appeal and is sometimes too cluttered or too empty.  It may be confusing at times.  The fonts, color, and background do not work well together  in the presentation making it difficult to view/read. There may be too many types of fonts, etc.

There are multiple thing in someone's life that can influence what their identity is. For me, I have family, friends, my likes, my dislikes, even my future plans. All these things help influence who I am as a person and I couldn't ask for anything more.
